Mark and his wife Taylor reside in their East Dallas Ju-Nel home acquired in 2007 with daughters Sterling and Vaughn. Their favorite aspect of living in their Ju-Nel home is the massive openness of the common spaces and the expansive views of large trees and green garden space which bring the outside in and connect the home with nature.
Mark started his career in retail with MAY Department Stores (now Macy's) in St. Louis, MO. Working his way up through the organization to corporate buyer for MAY Merchandising Company, he learned the importance of serving the customer and the value of listening. Leaving MAY in St. Louis after 13 years for an opportunity with Fossil Group in Dallas, Mark held various executive positions as Vice President in sales, brand management, analytics and operations. After 17 years at Fossil Group, Mark joined Vissute real estate where he specializes in commercial investment sales and helping residential buyers & sellers achieve their real estate goals.
From a young age, Mark was influenced by his maternal grandfather, John D. Randall, son of prominent Chicago Civil Engineer Frank Randall. Frank authored History of the Development of Building Construction in Chicago, long regarded as the definitive catalog of Chicago architecture. JDR, who was an architect and architectural historian, studied at the Illinois Institute of technology under Ludwig Mies van der Rohe. As a staff architect for the Southern Illinois University campus at Edwardsville, he functioned as the university’s expert professional liaison to Gyo Obata and the HOK design team. He led the effort to acquire and curate the University's Louis H. Sullivan Architectural Ornament Collection. Later in life, he became an ardent historic preservationist and successfully championed efforts to preserve the Louis Sullivan Wainwright building in St. Louis MO and Sullivan’s Guaranty building in Buffalo NY. He authored and published A guide to significant Chicago architecture of 1872 to 1922 as well as History of the Building Development in Chicago and 100 Greatest Treasure of American Architecture, et al. The John D. Randall Papers collection can be found at the Art Institute of Chicago Ryerson & Burnham Art and Architecture Archive.
Mark's mother Darcy A. Randall carried on her Father's legacy with a Louis Sullivan and Frank Lloyd Wright museum in Santa Barbara CA featuring a private collection of Sullivan and Wright documents, drawings and artifacts - some of which still remain in the family. While residing in Glencoe, a Chicago suburb, the Randall Family lived in the Frank Lloyd Wright Brigham House.
A deep passion for architecture and the works of Rowley and Wilson has led Mark to the work of identifying, authenticating and documenting every Ju-Nel home, with the ultimate goal of creating community, awareness and preservation.

For the purpose of this body of work, I have considered homes designed and built by the individual architects or by the company formed in 1959: JU-NEL Homes, INC. Within the City of Dallas Building Department Records Collections there are more than 20 variations of Rowley, Wilson and Ju-Nel naming conventions.
Rowley and Wilson were visionaries. Read the AIA Springboard piece - Edward Avila explains it better than most. Many Ju-Nel homes have proven to carry a premium over local comparative properties. Home buyers want authentic, well-designed mid-century modern homes and Ju-Nel delivers. Many owners have held their Ju-Nel homes for decades, and today, there are a handful of original owners. Owners do not like to leave their Ju-Nel homes.
A combination of Rowley and Wilson's wives. Juel (Julie) Rowley and Nelda Wilson.

Over the last 20 years, there have been a handful of different lists of Ju-Nel homes, and not since the old Ju-nelhomes.net was active were there more than 34 on the most published lists from D Magazine or The Advocate Magazine. Ju-nelhomes.net was the largest list with 99 homes and I have authenticated 81. Eight have been proven not to be authentic Ju-Nel and another 10 have yet to be confirmed. Including homes from the other lists, I have compiled a list of 99 known homes.
I have identified and authenticated another 48 homes which have not previously been publicly identified over the last 20 years which are now categorized as Re-Discovered.
Homes which have been previously identified over the last 20 years through various individuals and organizations.
Homes which have not been identified in the public record for the past 20 years. These homes are, for all intents and purposes, publicly forgotten as Ju-Nel.
Through thousands of hours of research work in the City of Dallas Buildings Departments and Dallas Central Public Library records collections as well as the Dallas Country Real Property databases.
I do. I currently have a dataset of more than 80 homes which have yet to be confirmed. My expectation is that there are possibly another 10-15 un-identified Ju-Nel homes within the 80 which would bring the total to around 160.

I do. To date, I have identified 246 homes which were possible Ju-Nel homess, for which I now have proof they are not. Send me an email at info@ju-nel.com with what address you're interested in and I am happy to share the records which indicate an architect other than Ju-Nel (if I have them).

The driving force behind Ju-Nel.com is awareness, community and preservation. I am a 17-year Ju-Nel owner with a rich family history in architecture. My work on identifying the body of work long pre-dates my entry into real estate. That said, I am licensed Realtor® and where I can offer my services to assist Ju-Nel owners in the disposition of their homes, and buyers in their acquisition of Ju-Nel homes, I am honored to do so, but it is not my primary goal with Ju-Nel.com.
Any information about Ju-Nel history, the architects, previous owners, sales history, county assessor facts, or the actual homes, etc. has been diligently collected and reviewed for accuracy. I have done my best to ensure the information is accurate and reliable, but I make no promises or guarantees that it is.
I do not claim to own rights to any of the photography, images, or news articles used on this site unless otherwise noted.
If you have a copyright claim on any of the images used on this site, please reach out to me through the Contact section. I will happily give you credit for your work, or remove it at your request. If you are a photographer who specializes in mid-century subjects, and I am using your work, I may want feature you on the site.
I am a licensed Texas Realtor® with Vissute Real Estate.
The purpose of my work on Ju-Nel is to raise awareness and appreciation for the architects and their body of work. For the enthusiast or beginner, there is a void of accurate, aggregated information and a place to find it. As a longtime Ju-Nel owner, I have a deep appreciation for the groundbreaking design and build quality that has stood the test of time for almost 65 years. One of my objectives is to build an environment and community where anyone who wants to learn about Ju-Nel has the ability to easily access the information.
Where I can offer my services to assist Ju-Nel owners in the disposition of their homes, and buyers in their acquisition of Ju-Nel homes, I am honored to do so.
